Yes, the Washington Redskins selected Montez Sweat in the first round of last year’s draft. Yes, they also have one of the most underrated pass-rushers in the NFL on the roster still in Ryan Kerrigan, even if he’s coming off a lackluster year. However, when a prospect like Chase Young is there for the taking, passing him up would be a severe mistake on the part of Washington.

More from NFL Spin Zone

Young is the best overall prospect in the 2020 NFL Draft by a pretty wide margin. Not only is he physically talented with tremendous, size, strength, quickness and speed when coming off of the edge but the Ohio State star is also exceptionally polished in terms of his pass-rushing plan, an arsenal of moves coming off the edge and his overall skill-set as a defensive end.

Though there were some rumblings that Young might stay in school rather than enter the draft as an underclassman, those rumors have now been squashed as Young has officially declared for the draft. The Redskins desperately need a superstar playmaker on either side of the ball and the Buckeyes standout has everything necessary to be just that.

Of course, the other option for Washington is to potentially trade down from the No. 2 overall pick. This is a franchise that, in truth, needs more than just one superstar. But if they do decide to stay in the position that they “earned” in the 2020 NFL Draft, then Young is the only pick that’s worth the No. 2 selection.
