Now with the 2019 campaign in the books for the Atlanta Falcons, here are three positives and negatives that took place throughout the year for the Falcons.

While multiple teams around the NFL have begun the 2020 NFL Playoffs, the Atlanta Falcons are watching it all from home while beginning the offseason. Following their Week 17 win, the 2019 campaign officially ended for the Falcons as they missed the postseason despite a strong finish to the regular-season schedule.

Atlanta, which ended the year on a high note by winning four straight games capped off by a thrilling overtime victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road in the regular-season finale, ultimately wasn’t able to overcome a rough start to the season during the latter portion of its schedule to try and make a push for the playoffs.

The Falcons wrapped up the 2019 season with an overall record of 7-9 overall, finishing the year second in the NFC South standings behind only the New Orleans Saints (13-3) while sitting ahead of the Buccaneers (7-9) and the Carolina Panthers (5-11) in the standings.

Although the second half of the year ultimately didn’t decide whether or not Atlanta would reach the postseason after it was basically eliminated from the playoffs earlier in the season, the fact that the Falcons’ season is now over and they won’t be playing for a chance to win a Super Bowl title this year is disappointing.

The Falcons are missing the postseason once again after having made two deep playoff runs in both of the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

Looking ahead to the offseason, it will be one that will be interesting in Atlanta as it tries to prepare itself to end that two-year playoff hiatus, holding a mid-first round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.

There are multiple areas that the Falcons will look to improve prior to the start of the 2020 regular season, but before we look too far ahead, let’s look back at the 2019 campaign and come up with some takeaways and some positives and negatives from the year that was for Atlanta.
