One of the biggest areas where the Dallas Cowboys defense has been susceptible in recent years is both over the top and in the middle of the field. While Xavier Woods is a fine player, Dallas simply doesn’t have the talent at safety right now to be consistent in those areas of defending the pass. So with Grant Delpit falling to the No. 17 pick, they should make no hesitation in grabbing the LSU safety.

While some will call Delpit’s tackling (rightfully so) into question, the LSU product is an elite playmaker. His instincts, athletic profile and coverage ability make him a game-changer any moment that he’s on the field. And if he can develop more technical consistency in addition to being motivated further as a tackler, Delpit could really change the face of the Dallas defense moving forward.

Bryce Hall seemed on track to be a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft but decided to return to Virginia for a final season. And while he looked back on track for a top-32 selection, an ankle injury prematurely ended his season and, coupled with some shaky moments, Hall is now likely to fall to early on Day 2. That’s to the Cowboys benefit as they may need reinforcements at corner if they let Byron Jones walk.

The interesting thing with Hall is that he can be a Day 1 starter but likely only in zone-heavy schemes, which it remains to be seen what Dallas will be looking at with coaching changes. Regardless, Hall still has the requisite physical tools to be a man-coverage player with some development. And with the need on the Cowboys defense, they would be foolish to let him fall past them.
