Miami Dolphins: 7-Round 2020 mock draft with Tua Tagovailoa declaring
Round 1: Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama
We’re not going to beat a dead horse here after already talking plenty about Tagovailoa but he’s clearly the right pick at No. 5 overall. The Alabama quarterback checks every box with having the benchmark physical tools to go with elite decision-making, accuracy, leadership and composure to be a franchise quarterback.
Moreover, as mentioned, he won’t be rushed along as the Dolphins could bring Fitzpatrick back and allow Tua to fully heal and become the potential superstar he clearly has the potential to be in the NFL.

Round 1: Henry Ruggs III, WR, Alabama
After taking the Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback with their initial first-round pick, the Dolphins now give Tagovailoa some familiarity as they bring in one of his weapons from Tuscaloosa, Henry Ruggs III, to help him in the passing game. And really, you have to love what Ruggs brings as a complement to DeVante Parker following the former first-round pick’s breakout campaign.
Ruggs’ most elite trait is, without question, his speed. Smart bets would be on him challenging John Ross for the fastest 40-yard dash time in the history of the NFL Combine. But beyond that, Ruggs is also a solid route-runner along with his wheels and has great short-area quickness to make guys miss. He’s a dynamic player that can be utilized in numerous ways to open up the Miami offense for years to come.
Round 1: Yetur Gross-Matos, EDGE, Penn State
We’ve seen the Dolphins whiff on edge rushers relatively recently in the first round of the draft with Charles Harris being the shining (or not so much) example of that. However, that doesn’t mean they can avoid the area as they need to start developing their front seven talent so that they can run an effective defense, which is where Yetur Gross-Matos comes into the fold.
Coming out of Penn State, Gross-Matos is a fantastic athlete that is unbelievably explosive off the line. He’s well-versed in lining up in different alignments, which he would be asked to do under Brian Flores. Already a plus run defender, if Gross-Matos can grow as a pass-rusher in terms of his moves and plan, he can be a stud for the Dolphins defense for many years.
