Evan Weaver is a player that is being a little slept on from a really impressive Cal Golden Bears defense. The linebacker isn’t going to wow people with elite speed, athleticism or quickness like some others in this draft class. However, Weaver may have the highest football IQ of any player in the class at the position and also has the physical tools to make plays as a tackler and move around the field.

Of course, Weaver is falling to the third round for a reason and that reason is his limitations in coverage. He may not be an every-down player in the NFL right away due to his shortcomings as an athlete that hold him back in that regard. However, looking at what he is able to do and the need in New Orleans to put depth at the position, Weaver can be a good add that should see the field right away.

In terms of name value, you have to like what New Orleans brings on the interior of the offensive line with Andrus Peat, Erik McCoy and Larry Warford. However, health and effectiveness, specifically at guard, has been an issue, something that teams were able to exploit against the Saints down the stretch. They need upgrades and depth.

The big area where Georgia’s Solomon Kindley needs to work coming out of college is with his mobility and footwork as he sometimes gets ahead of himself. However, he already plays with NFL-caliber punch and pop on the interior and can be coached up coming out of a good offensive line group in Athens. That will be a big get for the Saints at the beginning of Day 3.
