3. Pat Shurmur

One candidate that could potentially be a nice fit at offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings heading into the 2020 season is former Vikings coordinator and New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur. This is a move that initially makes sense on multiple levels for both Minnesota and Shurmur, as both parties are very familiar with each other.

Prior to taking the head coaching position with the Giants before the start of the 2018 season, Shurmur spent two full seasons with Minnesota as the organization’s offensive coordinator under head coach Mike Zimmer.

Shurmur ended up leaving the Vikings, much like Kevin Stefanski is in the process of doing right now, to take a head coaching position elsewhere. The 54-year old Shurmur was fired at the conclusion of the 2019 season by New York after compiling a two-season record of 9-23 with the G Men.

If Shurmur decides he wants to go back to being an offensive coordinator somewhere in the NFL, he could look to Minnesota as a place to return to if the Vikings have mutual interest in bringing him back.

After all, it would likely make for an easy transition for Shurmur to jump right back into things within this Vikings coaching staff and on a team that is familiar with him and he in return is familiar with as well.
