What to expect from the Kansas City Chiefs

Well, what else should we expect besides plenty of Mahomes? It’s been the Chiefs’ recipe for success over the last two seasons, so I wouldn’t look for anything different during the Super Bowl. In fact, it’s probably the only way the AFC’s top dog is going to emerge victorious.

Look for Mahomes to air it out early and often, relying on smart, mistake-free football to keep the San Francisco offense on the bench. As we saw during the NFC Championship game, this 49ers defense has a knack for creating turnovers and forcing quarterbacks into costly mistakes. Mahomes isn’t bothered often by the pass rush, but this San Francisco unit is elite.

The good thing is that Mahomes has plenty of weapons to work with. Tyreek Hill has been on fire throughout the playoffs, and Travis Kelce is capable of going off on any given Sunday. Tie in the explosiveness of Mecole Hardman and the reliability of Damien Williams, and you’ve got a recipe for success that has paid off time and time again for the Chiefs this season.

Realistically, I think this one will come down to the Kansas City defense. Can they get after Jimmy Garoppolo and force him into difficult decisions and costly turnovers? Can they keep Raheem Mostert from going off like he did in the NFC Championship Game? It won’t be easy, but it will be necessary if they want to secure their first Lombardi Trophy since 1970.

The plan of attack: lean on Mahomes and keep the San Francisco offense in check. If they can do both of those things, the Chiefs will be in prime position to win Super Bowl 54.
