By looking at someone such as Karl Joseph, we’re asking the Cowboys to address a position they ignored far too long. They ended up making a great pick in the sixth-round with Xavier Woods but outside of him, they haven’t had a lot of luck. They also haven’t been trying.

The same can be said for their tight end position. They relied on Jason Witten for years, which was understandable. The problem is, when Witten was in his prime, they were drafting guys such as Anthony Fasano, Marcellus Bennett, and Gavin Escobar. As he neared the end, they stopped.

Then when Witten retired in 2018, they had just Geoff Swaim and Blake Jarwin. Witten returned in 2019, but shouldn’t have. His return pushed back the development of Jarwin, who was coming into his own.

They also were unable to see if Jarwin could be the answer since he was never used full-time, even at the end of the season when everyone could tell all hope was lost.

It now appears Witten is finally gone, which means they should do something rather than ignore the position again. One potential addition in a trade could be O.J. Howard from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Howard is another former first-round pick, but the former Alabama star has yet to break out in the NFL and the Bucs seem to favor Cameron Brate.

Howard is a good weapon in both the passing game as well as in-line as a blocker. Landing him in a trade would be a great addition to a team that can use some athleticism at the position.
