Pick Analysis. Texas AM. Justin Madubuike. 2. player. Scouting Report. DT. 873

With their second-round pick, the Cowboys again add a player to a position that they have criminally neglected during the Rod Marinelli

error

era. For whatever reason, Marinelli never wanted to use early draft picks on a defensive tackle — and for an even more asinine reason, Dallas took a coordinator’s advice in the war room over their own scouts.

Due to that, they were continually adding late-round and undrafted talent, up until 2019. In that draft, they finally decided to go after a defensive tackle but then they decided to absolutely reach. Despite having several safeties graded higher than Trysten Hill, they elected to go with a guy who couldn’t get on the field at UCF due to his attitude.

But the Cowboys thought ‘Ol Rod could ‘coach him up’, which never happened. Now, they need to enter this season pretending as if Hill isn’t there, because he really wasn’t in 2019. If they get production from him great, but they cannot simply expect it just because Marinelli thought he could turn into something.

With that rant done, we turn back to the second pick in this mock draft, which is used on Texas A&M’s Justin Madubuike. The 6-foot-3, 304-pound defensive tackle has been climbing up boards as people are really digging into his film and seeing the way he can penetrate the gap.

He has the strength to hold up in the one-technique for Dallas but could also be a factor in rushing the passer as he was able to record 5.5 sacks in 2019 for the Aggies. Adding him as well as a new safety in the first round suddenly makes this Cowboys defense much more complete.
