5. Phillip Dorsett, WR

The Packers lacked a reliable deep threat this past season. Second-year receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling was supposed to be that guy, but never developed into what the team had hoped for. Maybe Valdes-Scantling takes a step forward in Year 3, but the Packers should still add an insurance policy in case he doesn’t.

Enter Phillip Dorsett, a former first-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts back in 2015. Dorsett could be considered a draft day bust based on where he was selected, but he still offers plenty of upside as a role player in the right offense.

The five-year veteran caught a career-best five touchdowns with the New England Patriots in 2019. While Dorsett hasn’t lived up to his draft status — he has 124 receptions for 1,634 yards and 11 touchdowns in 71 games played — the 5-10, 192-pound wideout offers something others simply can’t: dangerous speed.

Dorsett posted an official time of 4.33 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine back in 2015. He caught five passes of at least 20 air yards this season. On those plays, he racked up 192 yards. He also had zero drops on 60 targets.

Dorsett signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract with the Patriots last offseason. Perhaps he could be had for a similar deal if New England elects to let him walk away.
