2. Greg Olsen, TE

While complementary wide receivers are a need for New Orleans, so too is filling the hole at tight end. It seems like, after losing Jimmy Graham, the Saints still haven’t found a solution. Rather, they’ve tried to draft players or signed veteran players that didn’t make a huge impact.

That’s why it’s imperative that they not make the same mistake again. Heading into the 2020 free agency season, they need to stay away from Greg Olsen.

After being drafted by the Bears and eventually finding his way to the Panthers, Olsen found a home up until recently. With the Panthers and Olsen parting ways mutually, the veteran tight end is meeting with teams and seems as if he could make a decision relatively soon.

However, it isn’t a good idea for the Saints to be one of those teams as Olsen is on the downswing of his career and signing with the Saints isn’t going to help him. Rather, it’s going to hurt the Saints as it won’t solve their issue long term and it will cost them more money than Olsen is worth. With a healthy Cam Newton, Olsen is great but that quarterback connection has to be there.

More than likely, the Saints would sign him for a year before letting him go and, ultimately, ending up back where they started. While he might put in a good season or two with Brees, he’s not a viable option for them.

Rather, the Saints should pursue someone like Hunter Henry or Tyler Eifert if they’re looking in free agency for a tight end. Olsen will find a home but it shouldn’t be with the New Orleans Saints.
