Buffalo Bills: 5 Big-name free agents to target in 2020
4. Brandon Scherff, OG
In the interest of protecting Josh Allen last offseason, the Bills made strong moves to solidify their offensive line in the 2019 offseason. Not only did they sign Mitch Morse, Jon Feliciano and Quinton Spain in free agency but also lucked their way into being able to select Cody Ford out of Oklahoma in the second round, who proved to be a fantastic addition. And that unit, overall, performed well for the Bills.

While that may be true, Spain is set to become a free agent once again this offseason and Feliciano could wind up being a cap casualty should the Bills want to free up some more money. Either way, if they want to continue investing in protecting Allen in the trenches, they could try to let Spain walk and get the biggest fish in the interior linemen pond in free agency, Brandon Scherff.
Since being selected fifth overall in the 2015 NFL Draft by Washington, Scherff has consistently been one of the best offensive guards in the league. While Spain was a solid performer for Buffalo this past season, it’s hard to argue with the possibility of a team using ample cap space to get one of the best players at a position to upgrade that spot.
The drawbacks to signing Scherff in 2020 NFL free agency for the Bills would be what is likely going to be a hefty price tag given his age and proven performance and the simple fact that he could not even see the market if Washington elects to franchise tag him. If he hits the market, however, Buffalo would be well served to make a play to sign him.
