5. Everson Griffen

When it comes to players on the defensive side of the ball for the Minnesota Vikings, defensive end Everson Griffen has been in the middle of the success the Vikings have had defensively over the course of the last few years.

But prior to the start of the 2020 campaign, Griffen could be on the outside looking in while looking for a new home going into the new year.

Prior to the start of the 2019 season, Griffen and the Vikings worked out a contract restructuring to keep the defensive end in Minnesota at least one more year at a reasonable price.

While making about $6.5 million in Minnesota last year, Griffen’s contract does provide him with the ability to void the last three years of his contract, if he would like to, due to reaching a performance-based milestone of over six sacks during the year that allows him to be able to get out of his current contract if desired.

If Griffen decides that he doesn’t want to void the remainder of his contract, he would be under contract with the Vikings through the 2023 season. If that takes place, Minnesota could still look to cut ties with the 32-year-old.

With fellow defensive end Danielle Hunter in the prime of his career and stepping into the top player role at that position on defense, as well as with the likely expanded roles of Ifeadi Odenigbo and Stephen Weatherly among the defensive line next year, Griffen’s time in Minnesota might be coming to an end after spending the entirety of his 10-year NFL career with the Vikings.
