The Chicago Bears’ patience with current starting quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has to be wearing thin. Drafted in 2017, Trubisky hasn’t shown what it takes to be a franchise quarterback in his three seasons. Though he’s dealt with injuries, his accuracy, ball placement and decision-making have all been questionable.

Perhaps the Bears could bring in some friendly competition in the form of Andy Dalton. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport recently confirmed that the Cincinnati Bengals will be shopping Dalton this offseason.

Throughout his career, when surrounded by a strong supporting cast, Dalton has been a viable quarterback for the Bengals. Take 2015, for example, when Dalton was having an MVP-level season before he broke his thumb near the end of the season.

Offensive coordinator Hue Jackson helped Dalton post the best season of his career in 2015 when he recorded 3,250 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and just seven interceptions, while leading the team to a 10-3 record in his 13 starts. He posted a career-best completion rate (66.1 percent), yards per pass attempt (8.4) and passer rating (106.2).

A pairing with a creative offensive mind like Matt Nagy could help resurrect Dalton’s career and help get the Bears back into playoff contention. A 2020 fifth-rounder and conditional 2021 third-rounder based on playing time could be enough for Chicago to acquire him.
