NFL Trade Rumors: 5 Blockbuster trades the NFL needs in 2020 offseason
By Joe Kipp
The Green Bay Packers need more offensive firepower and what better way to increase offensive output than to add one of the NFL’s most explosive weapons? The Cleveland Browns traded for Odell Beckham Jr. last offseason, but a combination of factors could contribute to the Browns moving on after just one season.
A rocky first year left Beckham with the worst statistical output of his career, largely thanks to injuries, ineptitude coaching and mediocre quarterback play. Beckham finished with just 74 catches for 1,034 yards and four touchdowns in 16 games played. All were career-lows for a season in which he played at least 12 games.
Meanwhile, the Packers had just one bonafide receiving threat in Davante Adams. Aside from Adams – who missed four games this past season – no Packers player eclipsed 500 receiving yards during the 2019 regular season.
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst stated at his end-of-year press conference that the team looked into acquiring a receiver at the trade deadline last October. Additionally, the Browns are under new management, led by new general manager Andrew Barry.
Because of all of these factors, the Packers could be in play for a potential blockbuster trade. Acquiring Beckham, 27, would help get the offense over the hump in 2020. A 2020 first- and 2020 fifth-rounder could be enough.
