3. Equanimeous St. Brown or Marquez Valdes-Scantling, WRs

An issue that plagued the Green Bay Packers offense throughout the regular season and into the playoffs was the lack of consistent production from the wide receiver group outside of Davante Adams. That was never more evident than the midseason stretch where Adams was forced out of action for four games due to a toe injury.

One player that was consistently looked to as a guy who could possibly step up was Marquez Valdes-Scantling, the 2018 fifth-round pick out of South Florida. However, it never happened for him in his second season as he caught only 26 of his 56 targets for 452 yards and two touchdowns. Despite his physical tools, it’s become clear his development is not on pace to the degree Green Bay would like for it to be as his production slipped from his rookie campaign.

A guy that the Packers would’ve liked to have as an option this past season may have been 2018 sixth-round pick Equanimeous St. Brown. After catching 21 passes for 328 yards as a rookie, the massive target out of Notre Dame suffered a preseason ankle injury that landed him on season-ending injured reserve before Week 1 rolled around.

As both Valdes-Scantling and St. Brown enter their third NFL season, the Packers appear on track to address wide receiver this offseason, possibly using a first-round pick to add an elite prospect at the position. And if that’s the case, along with the late-season emergence of Allen Lazard, Green Bay could choose to move on from one of their 2018 draft picks.

The Packers would save $605,611 by cutting Valdes-Scantling and $630,398 by cutting St. Brown.  It seems more likely that, if they were to cut one of those two players, it would be MVS given his lack of development and the fact that St. Brown has had fewer opportunities due to injury while also being two years younger. Either way, both players are possible cuts in the interest of saving a bit of money.
