3. Chicago Bears

Mitchell Trubisky played efficient football in 2018, but he did not excel as a quarterback. Many fans believe he regressed from 2018 to 2019, but that’s not the case. The defense regressed, and compounding pressure revealed the flaws that Matt Nagy’s system covered up the previous year.

At this point, everyone agrees the Bears messed up when they drafted Trubisky ahead of Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson. It’s time for the Bears to admit their mistake. Unless Chicago’s defense transforms back into the best one in the NFL, the Bears are dead in the water this coming season. They cannot compete with the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings right now.

Adding Rivers changes the dynamic in the NFC North. Suddenly, the Bears get a quarterback who can throw the ball with greater accuracy and can produce big performances when needed. Trubisky averaged 209.2 passing yards per game in 2019. In comparison, Rivers averaged 288.4, and the last time for under 225 yards per game was back in 2007. He can rejuvenate the passing game.

Chicago’s ground game is one of the worst in the NFL. The Bears ran for 91.1 yards per game this past season, which ranked 27th in the league. The team cannot afford low passing totals when the running game doesn’t work either. At least Rivers gives the team a dangerous passing game.

As for what Chicago can offer Rivers, the team still possesses a very talented defense. The offensive line and receiving corps are both decent but not great. It’s an average landing spot in a tough division, but there aren’t many better options.
