2020 NFL Mock Draft: What if Redskins replace Dwayne Haskins with Tua Tagovailoa?
By Dan Parzych
One can only imagine the high level of excitement that would be on display for the Detroit Lions if the Cincinnati Bengals and Washington Redskins both went quarterback with the first two picks since it would result in Chase Young being available at No. 3.
Over the years, Ohio State has seen plenty of great defenders go on to make a splash in the NFL right away, with Nick Bosa on the San Francisco 49ers this past season immediately coming to mind.
Watching Young record 27 sacks (16.5 in 2019) during his final two years with the Buckeyes shows that it’s only a matter of time before the star defender sees his name added to that list, no matter what team he ends up joining in the draft.
Two years after hiring Matt Patricia following a successful stint as defensive coordinator with the New England Patriots, it’s no secret that Detroit is in desperate need of defensive help with all of the previous struggles from 2019.
If anything, the Lions just need to look at Bosa’s rookie campaign with the 49ers to see what kind of impact Young can have on the defensive unit, and when looking at how competitive the NFC North is turning out to be, Detroit is going to need all of the extra help possible.
Plus, with Patricia previously earning the Lions head-coaching job for his work as a defensive mastermind, the addition of Young could be the perfect new talent to work with moving forward.
