2020 NFL Mock Draft: What if Redskins replace Dwayne Haskins with Tua Tagovailoa?
By Dan Parzych
For months now, there’s been plenty of speculation surrounding the Miami Dolphins doing whatever it takes to land Tua Tagovailoa since they clearly need a new quarterback to build the franchise around.
Nothing against Josh Rosen since the former first-round pick could still turn out to be a reliable starter in the NFL some day, but from a potential perspective, Tagovailoa seems to have the edge at the moment talent-wise.
With that being said, if the Dolphins do find themselves in a position at No. 5 where Tagovailoa is unavailable, they may need to come up with another option at quarterback, that is assuming this is the direction the team wants to go early on in the first round.
While there’s always the chance Justin Herbert will be available later on in the first round when Miami has another pick, the Dolphins also need to keep in mind that a few other teams will be looking to add a quarterback early on as well.
In other words, if Tagovailoa somehow becomes unavailable, Miami may have to bite the bullet by selecting Herbert at No. 5, which also wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world either.
During his time at Oregon, Herbert has made it clear the potential is there to develop into a top NFL quarterback, and with the Dolphins having a few key pieces to work with already on offense, this could turn out to be a great fit.
Many believe Herbert is nowhere near the same level as Tagovailoa talent-wise, but the 61 touchdown passes over the last two seasons along with just 14 interceptions show why the excitement is there.
