Joe Schobert (Age: 26)

Trevathan is an all-around player. He plays well against both the run and the pass. Should the Bears decide to move on from him they’ll need another all-around player. That player could be Joe Schobert.

More from NFL Spin Zone

Schobert is a good run stopper and he is one of the best coverage linebackers in the league. Many don’t know about him because he is stuck with the Cleveland Browns. Playing on the great Chicago Bears defense could put the spotlight on him.

Schobert had a very good 2019 season. He recorded 133 tackles, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. How good was he at coverage? Well, he had nine passes defended and four interceptions.

Schobert is also durable. He’s only missed three games in his four seasons. As we know, the Bears have suffered from injuries to key players in 2019. We can expect Schobert in the lineup every week doing a good job.

Schobert is an intelligent player. He’s had three(!) defensive coordinators in Cleveland and they all rave about his football IQ and leadership. He’d be yet another intelligent leader on the defense.

Pairing Schobert with Smith would be a great move. Both players are very good tacklers and both play the run and the pass. With those two together and Eddie Goldman at nose guard opposing teams will find it very difficult to penetrate the middle of the Chicago Bears defense.
