Green Bay Packers: 5 Top targets in 2020 NFL free agency
By Joe Kipp
5. Amari Cooper, WR
Receiver Amari Cooper made a strong impression when the Cowboys faced the Packers in Week 5. Cooper gave the Green Bay secondary nightmares all game, particularly against Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander. Despite the Cowboys’ 34-24 loss, Cooper finished the game with 11 receptions for 226 yards and a touchdown.

Drafted by the Raiders in the first round in 2015, Cooper was traded to Dallas during the 2018 season. He’s finished with over 1,000 receiving yards in four of his five seasons in the NFL. It’s highly unlikely that the Cowboys would let Cooper test the free agent market, but if he’s available the Packers should be all in on acquiring him.
It’s not often that a receiver of Cooper’s stature becomes available via free agency. One of the best route runners in the NFL, Cooper would make a great pairing with Davante Adams, forming the best receiver duo in the league. Cooper is more than capable of being a No. 1 receiver, so being the second option to Adams would only make him more lethal.
The Packers struggled to find a play maker outside of Adams and running back Aaron Jones this past season. Cooper would provide a safety blanket for quarterback Aaron Rodgers on the opposite side of the field. The only problem would be compensation. How much money would Cooper command? He’ll likely be a top five highest-paid receiver when it’s all said and done.
