3. Randall Cobb (Age: 30)

As I mentioned, the Chicago Bears need a good veteran who could give Trubisky an effective target. Robinson cannot be expected to take the load he had in 2019. He accounted for 27 percent of the receiving targets. The second highest in targets was running back Tarik Cohen with 18 percent. Miller was next among the receivers with 15 percent. That cannot happen again in 2020.

Randall Cobb can take some of the targets and help. He is an excellent route runner and has pretty good hands. He’s caught about 70 percent of the passes thrown his way and he averages about 53 yards per game. That’s a good chunk of work that helps out not only Trubisky but also Robinson.

Now with two other choices (and that’s not including what Ridley could end up doing) for opposing defenses, Robinson can work with more space and do even more damage. He had 1,147 yards and 7 touchdowns despite most teams keying in on him so imagine what he could do when the defense has other receivers to worry about.

Cobb can mainly play in the slot but he has experience on the outside as well. He has good speed and has the ability to make big plays.

The Bears don’t have to sign Cobb to a longterm deal. He could come in for, let’s say, two seasons. That allows the Bears to draft another receiver who might be a project. He doesn’t have to come in right away. He could sit and learn and take over when he’s ready.

Having played with the hated Green Bay Packers, Cobb helps in a couple of other ways. He can give some insight into Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The Bears haven’t been able to get any despite seeing him 23 times in his career. Additionally, he played in a lot of playoff games while in Green Bay (11) so that experience is invaluable.
