4. New York Giants

First Round Picks in 2020 NFL Draft: No. 4

Despite adding two first-round picks, defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence and cornerback Deandre Baker, to their defense last offseason, the New York Giants still struggled mightily on that side of the ball. And while finding players who can consistently generate a pass-rush is important, they also desperately need help at middle linebacker.

The Giants recently released veteran linebacker Alec Ogletree and, frankly, they did so with good reason. While Ogletree has made a significant amount of money in the NFL and has consistently been on the field whenever healthy, he’s always left a lot to be desired. His football IQ is lacking and has often led to him not being able to use his solid physical tools.

So now with a clear hole, especially with Deone Bucannon now heading into free agency, Isaiah Simmons could make a lot of sense for the Giants. He could enter the fray in the Big Apple and immediately shore up the middle of the field both against the run and in coverage. Furthermore, he would be able to move around and help give their pass rush a jolt in sub-package situations.

Taking Simmons at No. 4 would be highly aggressive for general manager Dave Gettleman, though you can’t count him out in that regard considering where he took Lawrence and Daniel Jones last year. But if they look to maximize the value of that pick and trade down with a team trying to move up for a quarterback, the Clemson linebacker would be a phenomenal fit.
