2020 NFL Draft: 5 Best landing spots for Isaiah Simmons
1. Las Vegas Raiders
First Round Picks in 2020 NFL Draft: No. 12, No. 19
For as great of a fit as Isaiah Simmons would be with the Jaguars, the best possible landing spot for the linebacker in April’s draft would be with the Las Vegas Raiders. In terms of need, fit within the coaching staff and culture and possible draft position, the Raiders almost make too much sense as the eventual destination for Simmons.
It’s been a years-long search for the Raiders trying to find someone to shore up the middle linebacker spot. From Vontaze Burfict to Marquel Lee, this franchise has tried numerous avenues to fix their issues there but they have all either been ineffective or unavailable. So now might be the time to make a hefty investment at the position.
Simmons would fit perfectly into the Jon Gruden, Mike Mayock regime with the silver and black. Not only is he a player whose motor never quits on defense but his willingness to play in any role that will help the team and be a leader defensively is perfect for the culture being built with the Raiders. He would slot in and be an immediate leader on this team.
While the Raiders likely won’t be able to get Simmons with the No. 12 pick, they could package that selection with one of their three third-round picks (No. 80, 81 and 91) to move up and get the linebacker if he’s their guy. And frankly, given how he’d fit in Las Vegas, it’s hard to imagine a reason why he wouldn’t be their guy.
