The NFL Combine wrapped up with the defensive backs testing on Sunday for Day 4 in Indianapolis and these were the winners and losers.
As the 2020 NFL Combine wrapped up on Sunday with Day 4 of the athletic testing, we saw some of the most talked-about names in the 2020 NFL Draft class out on the field — and plenty of guys who could be picked in the top 100 — show what kind of athletes they are at Lucas Oil Stadium. And for the most part, these guys didn’t disappoint.
Unfortunately, there were some of the big names in the draft class that didn’t work out on Sunday at the Combine. Guys such as Grant Delpit, Ashtyn Davis and Bryce Hall chose not to participate either due to injury or otherwise. Meanwhile, Alabama’s Trevon Diggs didn’t run the 40-yard dash but still did the on-field drills.
Frankly, there were far more impressive performances on Day 4 of the NFL Combine than not. Even still, let’s take a look at the winners and losers from the defensive backs in Indianapolis on Sunday.
Winner: Jeremy Chinn, S, Southern Illinois
Jeremy Chinn is a player that, with his size and performance as a small-school product, has certainly turned some heads for anyone who’s watched his film. On Sunday, he showed everyone he’s more than just someone who can dominate the Salukis competition.
Coming in at 6-3, 221 pounds, Chinn tested out of his mind with a defensive back-best 11-foot-6 broad jump to go with a 41-inch vertical and 4.45-second 40-yard dash. No matter where he comes from you can’t teach that type of athleticism and, with impressive tape, there’s very little chance he makes it out of Day 2.
Winner: Jeff Okudah, CB, Ohio State
To be sure, it wasn’t all good for Jeffrey Okudah at the Combine on Sunday. During one of the on-field drills, Okudah went up to high-point the football and came down awkwardly on his head and neck area, ending his work in the drills. However, he showed his toughness and competitive nature by still doing the jumps thereafter.
Overall, Okudah had a big day with his testing numbers. The 6-1, 205-pounder posted a solid 4.48-second time in the 40 with an impressive 41-inch vertical and 135-inch broad jump. He’s clearly an elite athlete that has the tools to live up to his status as a surefire top-10 pick.
Loser: Myles Bryant, CB, Washington
Measuring in at only 5-8, 183 pounds, there was no question that Washington corner Myles Bryant needed to prove to NFL teams that he’s a tremendous athlete. Instead, the opposite was apparent. Bryant ran just a 4.62-second 40 with pedestrian jumps of 31.5 inches in the vert and 115 inches in the broad. While his 3-cone time was quite good, his overall day didn’t do his draft stock any favors.
Winner: C.J. Henderson, CB, Florida
C.J. Henderson was always going to be one of the best-testing cornerbacks on Sunday at the NFL Combine. The key was simply the Florida product getting out there and taking care of business.
He most certainly did that as you might argue that he was the most complete prospect we saw on the field at Lucas Oil Stadium on Day 4. Not only did he run the 40 in 4.39 seconds but he posted nice numbers elsewhere (37.5-inch vert, 10-foot-7 broad). Even better, he was a star in the on-field drills, proving he has all the coverage ability and tools you need to succeed.
