NFL Combine, winners and losers from Day 3: Isaiah Simmons is a freak, Derrick Brown falters
Winner: Chase Young, EDGE, Ohio State
If you’re thinking, “Wait, Chase Young didn’t test. How could he be a winner from Saturday’s testing at the NFL Combine?” You’re right that he didn’t test. But by doing so while many of the edge rusher class failed to separate themselves, his spot at the top of the class was only more firmly cemented.

Young wouldn’t have run a 4.4-second 40 or anything of the sort, which we’ll see when he tests at his pro day. Having said that, he is an obvious physical force and a stud prospect and, with not otherworldly athletes emerging in this class on Saturday, that makes Young that much more valuable.
Winner: Neville Gallimore, IDL, Oklahoma
Anyone in the know could’ve told you that Neville Gallimore was going to do some freaky things for a man his size when the NFL Combine rolled around. After shedding more than 20 pounds prior to the 2019 season, Gallimore emerged as one of the elite athletes at defensive tackle in the 2020 NFL Draft class. Let’s just say that was all on display during Saturday’s test in Indianapolis.
At 6-2, 304 pounds, Gallimore ran the 40-yard dash in 4.79 seconds. With that time going official, it’s been determined it’s the third-fastest time by a defensive lineman weighing 300+ pounds. This young man is unbelievably explosive and should be a force at the NFL level.
In the Middle: Kenneth Murray/Patrick Queen, LB, Oklahoma/LSU
After Simmons in this draft class, Kenneth Murray and Patrick Queen have clearly established themselves as the No. 2 and 3 linebackers, in whichever order you prefer. And when it came to the 40-yard dash, both players showed their explosiveness as Murray ran it in 4.52 seconds while Queen was slightly faster at 4.50 seconds.
Unfortunately, both Murray and Queen succumbed to hamstring injuries in their second attempts in the 40, which kept them out of the on-field drills. It would’ve been great to see two athletic movers get out there for that and the fact that we didn’t due to injury leaves you somewhere in the middle.
