3. Dwayne Washington

Moving to the offensive side of the ball again, the Saints have a pretty solid group. As far as free agents go, it leaves a lot to be desired. Between Dwayne Washington, Keith Kirkwood and Justin Hardee, Washington is easily the best of the bunch. Of all three, he also has the most playing time which is exactly why the team should work on resigning him.

Letting Washington go to another team seems like a good move, but could end up spelling disaster if the team ends up losing Kamara or Murray long term.

Washington was drafted by the Detroit Lions and, honestly, he didn’t make much an impact. It’s no surprise that the Saints signed him in 2018 and have been using him ever since. He might not be getting as many touches as Kamara or Murray but Washington has made his mark.

In 2019, he played in every single game, even if he didn’t end up touching the ball. His best game came against the Cardinals in which he rushed three times for 38 yards. While that isn’t particularly impressive, it is for a third-string guy like Washington.

Re-signing Washington should be an easy move for the Saints. They might only sign him for a year or two but he has a chance to move up the food chain. Depending on how Murray plays, he could end up being Kamara’s back-up or keeping up his good work on special teams.

The Saints are known for having a solid special teams unit and keeping Washington could ensure that. If anything, special teams should be the push the Saints need to re-sign him.
