4. Darnay Holmes, CB, UCLA

Coming into the weekend, Darnay Holmes wasn’t a name mentioned anywhere in the top cornerback conversation. While the top five corner prospects in the 2020 NFL Draft haven’t changed, Holmes gave himself a boost with how he performed in Indy.

At UCLA, he showed his strength as a press corner with good and a smooth transition. He was great in short areas and excellent when playing off coverage. There were some questions about his long speed but it was clear he could clock and close with the best of them.

At the 2020 NFL Combine, Holmes performed well in the 40-yard dash, running a 4.48-second time at 5-10, 195 pounds. When he got onto the field drills, Holmes looked like a technician. The W-Drill was where he shined, showing his burst, not using the sometimes-hindering T-step. When he was asked to change direction and open his hops, he looked loose and smooth.

His best fit will come as a boundary corner in a system where he can play off-man but he’s tenacious at the line and shows promise in press. Holmes’ performance confirmed the depth that exist in the 2020 NFL Draft at the corner position. While there isn’t a ton of elite talent, there are plenty of guys who can fit specific schemes; Holmes is one of them.
