Jacksonville Jaguars: 7 Targets in 2020 NFL Draft to make a leap
6. Anthony McFarland, RB, Maryland
Leonard Fournette had a career year in 2019, proving he’s an every-down back. Still, the Jacksonville Jaguars offense will need more than the power of the former first-round pick out of LSU. With Minshew Mania officially taking over, a heavy dose of the running game is inevitable. Enter Maryland’s big play waiting to happen, Anthony McFarland.

The 5-8, 208-pound tough runner is an excellent complement for Fournette. He’d bring a dynamic to the offense the Jaguars haven’t had since Maurice Jones-Drew. The former Memphis ball-carrier is an explosive, tenacious runner who isn’t afraid of contact. He sticks his foot in the dirt and hits the hole without hesitation.
At the NFL Combine, he clocked a 4.45-second 40-yard dash, proving he’s just as fast as he plays. Ohio State knows all about his breakaway ability gutting them for 287 yards in 2018. He’s tough to bring down due to his power but also his slippery style; the guy has a nasty spin move. Pairing McFarland with Fournette would give Jaguar fans flashbacks of when Fred Taylor and MJD were running them into the playoffs.
It depends on how the draft pans out but, while its not a need, getting a dynamic back should be on the forefront for the Jags. If McFarland is on the board in the third round, there’s no reason why the Jags shouldn’t take him.
