824. Maryland. Antoine Brooks, Jr.. 5. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Safety

The Chicago Bears let Ha Ha Clinton-Dix walk away via free agency. That move allows Eddie Jackson to go back and dominate at free safety once again. Instead of going out and signing a big name, the team decided to re-sign Deon Bush and bring in Jordan Lucas. Neither player has shown a lot but they are getting their shot at the starting job.

Add Antoine Brooks Jr. to the mix and you have competition for the strong safety starting job.

Brooks is 5-11 and weighs 220 pounds. He gives the Bears some versatility. When he got to Maryland he was a linebacker. As a sophomore, he moved over to safety and played well there, garnering All Big-Ten honorable mention in 2017 and All Big-Ten second team in 2018 and 2019.

When he’s on the field, Brooks is all about excitement. He has a dominant personality. His hits set the tone for many games.

Brooks might not win the starting job in his first season, but he could thrive in certain packages. He could help in a reserve role and develop his skills and become a better player.

Brooks is a fun player to watch who fits the notion we have of what a Chicago Bears defender plays. He’ll become a fan favorite and could be a good asset for the team.
