Washington Redskins rebuild adds Chase Young in 7-round 2020 mock draft
By Lucas Schuh
As Preston Smith and Pernell McPhee left Washington after the 2018 season, a position of strength became a weakness in Washington. The addition of Sweat with a first-round pick didn’t fully alleviate those losses as the Redskins had hoped they would either. But with the No. 2 overall pick, the franchise has the opportunity to shore up that area with one selection.

With players such as Jeffrey Okudah and Isaiah Simmons on the board, taking Ohio State edge rusher Chase Young may not be as much of a no-brainer as some would think. However, Young is the best EDGE prospect since Myles Garrett, possessing the size, length and build ideal for the position.
There’s no defensive scheme that Young can’t thrive in. Young can with speed, power, bend, hand fighting and virtually any way necessary. His balance also stands out on film. Even when he doesn’t win dominantly, he’s able to keep his footing and continue to generate pressure.
If there’s one aspect of Young’s game that you could call a weakness, it’s that he’s not an immediate game-changer as a run defender, even if he’s still good in that regard. But when you have the ability to get to the quarterback that Young does, that becomes easy to look past.
Young can step in and immediately and be an impact player on the Redskins defense. Given his ability and age as he left Ohio State as a true junior, Young could be one of the best edge rushers in the NFL sooner rather than later, an asset Washington needs to fortify their defense.
Other Players Available: Isaiah Simmons, Jeffery Okudah, Tristan Wirfs
