Dallas Cowboys: 5 Wide receivers to target outside of Round 1 in 2020 NFL Draft
By Randy Gurzi
5. Quartney Davis, Texas A&M
A Texas-native, Quartney Davis is an above-averaged sized slot receiver coming out of Texas A&M. Listed at 6-1 and 201 pounds, Davis played just two seasons for the Aggies but showed decent production in that span. He finished with 99 receptions for 1,201 yards and 11 touchdowns — even without great quarterback play throughout his career.

Where Davis really shines is as a route runner. He doesn’t have blazing speed — evidenced by his 4.57 in the 40-yard dash — but he’s able to make moves close to the line of scrimmage that can create separation. Unfortunately, he’s not exactly consistent in this area and also struggles with concentration when pulling the ball in.
Davis clearly wouldn’t be an upgrade over Randall Cobb, but that’s a tall ask of any rookie receiver. And the good news for the Cowboys is, he would have time to develop since they not only have Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup, but they just extended the contract of tight end Blake Jarwin, who figures to be in the mix more this season as a receiver.
Davis is slated to go on day three meaning the Cowboys can land him late, but they have to know he’s a project player. Still, Davis did himself a favor at the recent Senior Bowl as he looked much better in drills than expected, which could help him land with a team that wants to bring out his potential.
