Iowa. Tristan Wirfs. 1. player. 878. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Offensive Tackle

Arizona flat out needs help at offensive tackle, even if the position wasn’t as bad as it was in 2018. D.J. Humphries and Justin Murray are the likely starters for 2020 as of now, the latter being the bigger issue. But even after Humphries was extended this offseason, they need a legitimate pass-blocker who can protect Kyler Murray for the Cardinals offense to get a boost.

Despite the need for help at offensive tackle, however, who to take at No. 8 isn’t an easy decision. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was heavily considered as adding him to the mix would Hopkins on the outside would put the Arizona offense over the top. Ultimately, however, adding a high-quality tackle like Tristan Wirfs was the smarter move.

Already considered one of the best at the position in the draft class, Wirfs exploded at the NFL Combine with unreal numbers. But he’s not just athletic tools as he’s extremely skilled. Wirfs is a powerful human being who jacks defenders up when he gets his hands on them. His raw power saw him break Brandon Scherff’s hang-clean record at Iowa. But he’s not just power as he’s also a patient player who stays under control in passing sets.

Wirfs is a very good and still-young offensive tackle prospect. Murray and the Cardinals will love the Iowa product when he hits the field as he’ll be a bulldozer in the run game and a patient, effective and mobile blocker for Murray. He’s an ideal fit for Arizona’s fast-paced offense.
