Justin Jefferson, WR, LSU

I’m going to start at wide receiver here because it seems to be the obvious need. With the departure of Diggs, the Vikings are left with little to brag about at the position outside of Adam Thielen. Seriously, it’s an ugly situation.

With that said, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Vikings waited to address the passing game. That’s not because there aren’t worthy candidates or that it’s not a need — it’s that there is an abundance of top-flight receivers in the 2020 draft class. That makes waiting to see who falls to Day 2 a logical course of action for a team that has a few other glaring needs.

Still, you shouldn’t count out the possibility of Minnesota taking a pass catcher at No. 22.

If that ends up being the case, Justin Jefferson is a realistic option to occupy Diggs’ targets moving forward. The former LSU star was a dominant force out of the slot who had a knack for making big plays down the field with his superb route running. Sounds similar to a certain other wide receiver who has excelled catching passes from Kirk Cousins, doesn’t it?

There’s no telling how the chips could fall come draft day. The Vikings may even be lucky enough to watch a top receiver like Henry Ruggs III tumble into their laps. For the time being, though, Jefferson seems like the most realistic option to come to the Twin Cities.
