Trevon Diggs, CB, Alabama

Name sound familiar? It should, seeing as that’s the younger brother of the new former Vikings receiver. While that may be the case, that shouldn’t dissuade Minnesota from calling his name.

We all know it’s essentially a necessity at this point for the Vikings to take a cornerback (or two) earlier during the 2020 NFL Draft. After the departures of Xavier Rhodes, Trae Waynes and Mackensie Alexander via free agency, the Minnesota secondary offers Mike Hughes, Holton Hill and not much else. Not exactly a promising situation for a once-proud defense.

That’s why targeting an impact cornerback in the first round is nearly a requirement.

If that ends up being the case, Trevon Diggs will be on their radar. Despite being Stefon’s little brother, he’s a proven playmaker on the outside who shines with his instincts, read-and-react skills and size. Zimmer loves his long, tough cornerbacks, and Diggs fits the bill.

With two first-round picks in their pocket, the Vikings will likely spend one of them on a cornerback. Considering how dire their secondary situation is at this moment, I wouldn’t be surprised if they used No. 22 to upgrade their pass coverage — especially after ranking only 15th in the league against the pass in 2019.
