Originally, Sanders started off as the No. 2 running back on offense for the Eagles, but due to Howard dealing with a shoulder injury for most of the final few months of action, the former Penn State star finished the year as the top option for Philadelphia.
Now, the Eagles are moving forward without Howard, and Sanders is expected to team up with Boston Scott as the new dynamic duo for Philadelphia’s offense, although there’s always room for adding another weapon to work with.
Doug Pederson has a history over the years riding the hot hand at running back, and for all the Eagles know, Swift could be great enough to compete for significant playing time as a rookie.
Sanders obviously has no reason to worry, but since Scott technically still has to prove that he isn’t just a one-hit-wonder, Philadelphia needs to keep all potential options open, whether that means Swift or someone else.
Plus, since the Eagles already have Sanders and Scott, Swift would face less pressure each week.
