Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Pick 74. player. Round 3. Jordyn Brooks. LB. 874

The Browns made a hole at safety which they filled in the second round with Antoine Winfield, but it wasn’t the only position where they let two former starters leave. Cleveland also made some big changes at linebacker this offseason and neither was very popular.

First, they decided to let Joe Schobert walk in free agency as fans had to watch one of their favorite players head to the Jacksonville Jaguars to get his big payday. Not long after that news broke, they released Christian Kirksey, who along with guard Joel Bitonio, was the longest-tenured player on the team.

Kirksey was also a very popular player and quickly found a home with the Green Bay Packers. His loss was more expected though after he missed a lot of time over the past two seasons with injuries.

With them gone, the Browns look to two draft picks from 2019 as third-round selection Sione Takitaki and fifth-round pick Mack Wilson are considered favorites to start. They shouldn’t be without competition after Wilson had his ups and downs as a rookie and Takitaki was unable to see the field much on the base defense.

For that reason, they take a linebacker with their first of two third-round picks here in Jordyn Brooks from Texas Tech. Brooks looks like he was chiseled to be an NFL linebacker and showed off his great speed by running a 4.54-second time in the 40-yard dash at the Combine.

He was all over the field for the Red Raiders and should have no problem finding a role with Cleveland as a rookie. Don’t be shocked if he’s a starter right out of the gates, and holds the job down for years to come.
