Round 4. 827. Pick Analysis. Pick 115. Alton Robinson. DE. player. Scouting Report

Just like with the wide receiver position, the Cleveland Browns seem more than capable at defensive end. Heading into the season, they’ll start Myles Garrett on one end and Olivier Vernon on the other. Each is more than capable of creating pressure on any play and when they’re on the field together, the Browns have one of the best pair of edge rushers in the game.

The problem is, they weren’t on the field the entire season in 2019. For Garrett, it was well documented what happened to keep him off the field. During a Thursday Night Football game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, he got involved in a brawl with Mason Rudolph and hit him in the head with his own helmet. Garrett was then suspended for the final six games of the season.

With Vernon, the issue was his health. He missed six games due to a knee injury and even when he returned after Garrett was suspended, he wasn’t his usual explosive self. That’s led to speculation he could be released, but what’s more likely is they add more depth — which is why Alton Robinson of Syracuse is chosen with the 115th overall pick.

Robinson has a great mix of speed and power but his numbers took a step back in 2019 as he went from 10 sacks in 2018 to four in his final season. However, he went to the Scouting Combine and recorded a 4.69-second time in the 40-yard dash while pushing out 25 reps in the bench rep — just to remind everyone how talented he was.

With Cleveland, he gives them someone to compete with Chad Thomas for the primary reserve role behind Vernon and Garrett. And given the way things developed last year, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him get some meaningful snaps as a rookie.
