8. Christine Michael, RB, Texas A&M (2013)

When the Seahawks didn’t have a first-round pick in 2013, the team selected Christine Michael with the 62nd overall pick. In college, Michael never ran for 1,000 yards in a single season, and he struggled to stay healthy. As a senior, he rushed for 12 touchdowns but only 417 yards on 88 attempts.

Michael appeared in 14 games during his first two seasons in Seattle, but he never started. The Seahawks traded Michael to the Dallas Cowboys for a seventh-round pick in 2015. He did return to Seattle in 2016, earning seven starts in nine appearances. By 2019, Michael was out of the NFL.

In total, Michael carried the ball 208 times for 915 yards and six touchdowns for the Seahawks.

7. Rashaad Penny, RB, San Diego State (2018)

In 2018, Seattle made Rashaad Penny the second running back selected in the draft by taking him with the 27th pick. Only Saquon Barkley, who got picked second, came off the board faster. Subsequently, Sony Michel went at No. 31. Nick Chubb followed at 35, Ronald Jones at 38, Kerryon Johnson at 43, Royce Freeman at 71 and Phillip Lindsay went undrafted.

Seattle hoped Penny would earn the starting job, but Chris Carson beat him out. Penny slid to third on the depth chart with Mike Davis taking on a fair load of carries. As a rookie, Penny finished with the third-most rushing yards on the team with 419, narrowly beating Russell Wilson’s 376.

Penny capitalized on his opportunities in 2019, averaging 5.7 yards per carry. However, he still trailed Carson on the depth chart, and a torn ACL cut his season short. Seattle reached several rounds for Penny and all they got in return was a backup running back.
