Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Round 2. Pick 51. K.J. Hamler. player. CB. 806

The Cowboys deserve a lot of credit for the work they did this offseason. They lost some big names which included Robert Quinn, Jason Witten, Bryon Jones, and Randall Cobb. However, they also brought in some star power — mostly on the defensive line. Dallas signed Gerald McCoy and Dontari Poe, which could help the secondary that is there now following Jones’ departure.

They also hope their additions help as they look to use Tyrone Crawford at defensive end with Randy Gregory and Aldon Smith potentially working as rotational ends along with Dorance Armstrong. At tight end, they’re replacing Witten in-house with Blake Jarwin who got a nice extension this year.

With all that being said, they haven’t done anything to replace Cobb, who did play very well as the third receiver last season. Thankfully, they can address the position in this draft as this is another receiver-heavy class.

They don’t need to feel desperate and reach early but in this mock, they can’t pass up the value that’s there at pick 51 as K.J. Hamler is still on the board. Hamler is undersized at 5-foot-9 and 176-pounds but Dallas already has size on the outside with Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup. Hamler’s addition gives them another player capable of getting deep on the defense as Hamler can fly.

He averaged nearly 17-yards per catch in his two seasons with the Nittany Lions and can open the game up should defenses forget about him while focusing on the two 1,000-yard receivers already on the roster.
