2020 NFL Mock Draft: Patriots land new QB, 49ers get stud receiver
By Randy Gurzi
With Damon Harrison out in Detroit, the Lions defensive line doesn’t have that powerful interior they’ve been used to over the past couple of seasons. And for head coach Matt Patricia, that’s where it all starts.
A defensive-minded coach, Patricia has done a great job rebuilding that Detroit line and now he has some great weapons in Trey Flowers and Jamie Collins. Of course, all those players come over from New England, which is where Patricia made his name. He also added Danny Shelton, who wasn’t with him while he was on the Patriots, but he surely got all the information he needed on the former first-round pick.
Now with their third pick in this draft, he adds one more star for the front seven in Derrick Brown, which not only replaces what Harrison gave them but actually can give them a little more in the pass-rushing game. He was never among the leaders in the nation, but he recorded 8.5 sacks in the final two seasons at Auburn.
In the NFL, his calling card will still be shutting down the run — which is what you expect out of a man who measured in at 6-foot-5 and 326-pounds at the NFL Scouting Combine.
