EDGE. Ohio State. 1. 812. Pick Analysis. Chase Young. player. Scouting Report

With the second overall pick in the opening round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins grab arguably the best player in the draft — Chase Young.

More from NFL Spin Zone

Last season, Ohio State was good to them as it not only landed them Dwayne Haskins but also their top receiver from 2019 Terry McLaurin. The 76th overall pick from Ohio State, McLaurin had 58 receptions for 919 yards and seven touchdowns as he and Haskins are poised to be the offensive leaders of the future in D.C.

This time, they go for a defensive star as they take Young, who has been hailed as the best pass rusher to come out of Columbus in several years. That’s some high praise considering this is the same school that gave us both Joey Bosa and his younger brother Nick Bosa.

Young stood out among his peers due to his enormous size and when he was on the field, he overpowered everyone. During his final season with the Buckeyes, he had 16.5 sacks and 21 tackles for a loss. He was an impact play waiting to happen and there’s no reason to think that won’t continue in the NFL.

For Washington, they would be pairing Young with Montez Sweat, who had 50 tackles and seven sacks as a rookie. They would likely be moving on from Ryan Kerrigan in the process, but it’s hard not to look at the pairing of Sweat and Young and not get excited.
