3. New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints may need to trade back by pure necessity, as they are currently tied for the fewest amount of draft selections in the league.

After trading away this year’s second-round pick to the Miami Dolphins and failing to receive any compensatory picks, the Saints have just five selections in this year’s draft.

New Orleans holds the 24th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, which is a prime spot for them to trade out of the first round. The Saints do have needs along the offensive line and in the secondary, but more than anything, they need sufficient depth. The Saints suffered a multitude of injuries last year, with key players like Marcus Davenport, Sheldon Rankins and Alex Anzalone missing time.

While an impact player at the end of the first round would obviously help, the Saints are better off and likely will trade down to accumulate more picks.

While trade-downs are rare for Sean Payton and company, I think he’d rather give himself extra ammunition in the middle rounds so he can trade up on Day 2 or 3 if necessary.
