2. Kansas City Chiefs

I mentioned the Saints were tied with another team for the fewest draft selections in the 2020 draft, and that team is the Kansas City Chiefs. After trading their sixth and seventh-round picks to the AFC East for New York’s Darron Lee and Miami’s Jordan Lucas, the Chiefs are only left with five draft picks, all near the end of the first five rounds.

Like the Saints, the Chiefs could use depth and cheap, rookie talent more than one impact player. They only have $5 million in cap space and will eventually need to extend their Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes.

They need to reload on inexpensive players, as they may have to cut talented veterans to make room for Mahomes’ mega-extension.

At No. 32 overall, the Chiefs have one of the better selections to trade out of the first round. Teams in the second round like to acquire the final pick in the first round, as it allows them to grab the fifth-year option on a player and take away the mystery of waiting another day to pick.

With such a deep class and messy cap situation, I’d be surprised if the Chiefs didn’t trade out of their first-round pick.
