Pick Analysis. Justin Herbert. 8. player. 47. Scouting Report. Quarterback. Oregon

Current Pick: No. 23

Isn’t it crazy to believe that if the regular season were to start today, Jarrett Stidham would be starting under center for the New England Patriots?

More from NFL Spin Zone

Never in a million years did any football fan believe that Tom Brady of all quarterbacks would be done with the Patriots after 20 years before eventually signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but hopefully New England doesn’t end up regretting their decision.

The Patriots clearly never would have let Brady walk so easily if they didn’t truly feel confident enough in Stidham being able to take on the role as the new starter, but also it wouldn’t be a surprise if New England considered options in the draft as well.

Over the years, New England has pulled off plenty of trades in the draft, and if they did in fact want to take advantage of the prospects at quarterback in the first round, a trade would most likely be acquired.

Since landing Burrow or Tua Tagovailoa would probably require the Patriots to trade up into the top five, Oregon’s Justin Herbert could be the next perfect project for Bill Belichick to work with.

Replacing Brady will basically be impossible for New England since the future Hall of Famer is one of the all-time greats for a reason, but this isn’t going to stop Belichick and company from at least trying, whether it happens to be Herbert or someone else.

At least if Herbert were to become New England’s preference, they would be getting a quarterback who completed 61 touchdown passes during his final two years with the Ducks, and never threw more than eight interceptions in a single season.
