3. Wide Receiver

Current wide receivers on the roster: Allen Robinson, Anthony Miller, Cordarrelle Patterson, Riley Ridley, Javon Wims

The Chicago Bears didn’t get much production out of their wide receivers corps in 2019 outside of Robinson and Miller. Taylor Gabriel had some moments but most of them came in the Washington game. Now he’s gone and the unit is thin. Patterson, like Cohen, is a gadget player who the coaches can move all over the field. Ridley should get a bigger role in the offense in his second season and Wims looks to be a filler and not someone who you can depend on regularly.

The Bears need another speed burner who can extend the defense. Even if Ridley does his job, he isn’t a big speed burner. He is athletic and can make circus catches. Speed kills and the Bears need some of it.

Prospects to target: KJ Hamler of Penn State is an exciting spark plug. He is a threat to score on any play. It doesn’t matter if you throw him the ball on short, intermediate, or long routes and he’ll beat the defense.

Hamler is small at 5-9 and 179 pounds but he plays like another diminutive star, DeSean Jackson. He has a similar body type (5-10, 175 pounds) and has similar speed and athleticism and has a very good 12-year career, named to three Pro Bowls. Hamler is the ultimate high risk, high reward prospect.

Baylor’s Denzel Mims is another speed burner who could help the Bears offense. He dominated everyone who covered him at the Senior Bowl and went to the NFL Combine and ran a 4.38-second 40 and did well in all the positional drills. He measures in at 6-2, 206 pounds and he knows how to use every inch of his body. He has an incredible catch radius that helps him bail out the quarterback.
