Even after adding Addison in free agency, I still believe that the Bills would benefit from getting more athletic and diverse in terms of their edge rushers and linebacker corps. They need athletes that can make explosive, splash plays and they need youth to inject some life into that group. That’s why a player like Michigan’s Josh Uche is so intriguing as an option in the second round for Buffalo.

More from NFL Spin Zone

Uche has a bit of linebacker/edge rusher hybrid in his blood but it’s clear he has the physical tools as an explosive, quick and fast player who can make an impact coming off the edge, blitzing and moving in space. The question is all about fit, which you can read into with Lance Zierlein of NFL.com’s evaluation:

"Balancing Uche’s skill set and athletic potential against his inexperience and lack of instincts makes him a challenging evaluation. He’s unlikely to find sustained success as a situational rusher, but it should be in play for a team to turn loose his rush instincts and agility inside the pocket as a blitzer. He plays with closing burst, can tackle and is smoother in coverage than expected, but the difference in becoming a pro linebacker instead of a short-term, hybrid athlete will depend largely upon improving his second-level instincts and finding an eclectic defensive mind to unlock his potential."

McDermott and the Bills have proven their abilities as coaches to unlock the potential of players and Uche could very well be their next project to pay off. Adding him to the mix as a chess piece in the front seven could make this Buffalo defense an absolute terror for every opponent they come up against.
