2020 NFL Draft: Best running back option in all 7 rounds
Round 2: Clyde Edwards-Helaire, LSU
Size is the only thing hindering Clyde Edwards-Helaire from entering the conversation as RB1. You can’t negate the fact that he’s 5-7 but he’s compactly built at 207 pounds. Both Alabama and Clemson’s defenses will tell you that his size didn’t matter. Edwards-Helaire shredded them for a total of 213 rushing yards with 100+ yards in each outing.

Joe Burrow touted the stout back as the best athlete on LSU. While he’s not the most athletic back in the 2020 NFL Draft, he is the most complete in terms of readiness as a pass-catcher out of the backfield. The former Tiger caught 55 passes for 453 yards and a touchdown in his final season in Baton Rouge.
At the line of scrimmage, he’s a creator thanks to his vision and ability to exploit creases. He understands how to press the line and manipulate secondary defenders. Trash doesn’t bother him and he can make guys miss in compact spaces.
His ability to absorb contact and stay on his feet is arguably the best in the class. He has a powerful lower body and always keeps his legs churning. In the open field, he has moves on top of moves, including a deadly spin.
Edwards-Helaire is a plug-and-play starter who’ll likely surpass 1,500 yards total offense in his rookie season. Some genius GM will get this guy on Day 2 and watch his offense thrive as a result of all Edwards-Helaire can do.
