Could the Jacksonville Jaguars trade up to draft a quarterback?
The Jacksonville Jaguars rebuild has officially begun but could they get the 2020 NFL Draft started with a bang by trading up to select a quarterback?
The 2020 NFL Draft is now less than a week away and the Jacksonville Jaguars currently sit with the ninth overall pick as they are at the beginning of a rebuild. Just three seasons removed from the AFC Championship Game, nearly all members of their defense from the 2017 season are gone. And while the cult-favorite signal-caller Gardner Minshew put up solid numbers, could the Jaguars be a sleeper team to trade up for a quarterback?
Jacksonville certainly has the capital to move up if they wanted to draft a quarterback as they have 12 picks in the 2020 NFL Draft and, along with Miami, they are the only team in the top 10 with multiple first-round picks.
If they are looking to move up into the top five for Tua Tagovailoa or even Justin Herbert, there three teams who I believe would be willing to move down and do the deal with Jacksonville.

New York Giants
The Giants currently sit at No. 4 where they are expected to take either Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons or one of the elite left tackles projected to go early. The Jaguars could offer No. 9 and 20 for No. 4 and possibly another later pick — No. 36 might be too much to ask.
They would basically swap drafts in terms of the first two rounds and I would expect the Jaguars to throw in one of their three fourth-round picks as well. By moving down, the Giants could land a left tackle at No. 9 and a defensive player at the position of their choosing at No. 20 while the Jags could draft Herbert or Tagovailoa.
Detroit Lions
The Lions have been rumored to be shopping the No. 3 pick and why not? While Jeffrey Okudah will more than likely be available for them with the third pick, they need help at multiple positions on defense and only seven picks in the draft.
The Jags would once again give up their two first-rounders and one of their three fourth-round picks. With this trade, Jacksonville would have their pick of quarterbacks once again and I project that the Lions would select have a strong assortment of defensive players to choose from.
Washington Redskins
While it is a bit of a stretch, it is possible that Washington moves down to gain extra draft capital. Like Detroit, the Redskins also have seven picks in the 2020 draft. Moving up to No. 2 overall would take a lot. So for this to happen, I’d expect the Jaguars to give up the No. 9, 20, 73 and 137 picks in this year’s draft and a second-rounder in 2021.
Washington lacks a second-round pick this year, so they’d be more than happy to move down and gain an extra first, along with the other picks that come with it. They could do a variety of things with the first-round picks and could start their own rebuild in a timely manner.
