If Antoine Winfield Jr. was built like Grant Delpit, he might be the top safety prospect in the 2020 NFL Draft. Throughout his career at Minnesota — when healthy — the defensive back with NFL bloodlines was a playmaker on the back end with unreal instincts for the position. And his NFL Combine performance made him even more valuable as he showed he has more speed, burst and explosiveness than many thought was present with the Golden Gopher.

Even if he’s definitively under 6-0, Winfield Jr. has the ability to come in and be a ball-hawking force on the back end of the Browns defense. Though Cleveland added Karl Joseph and Andrew Sendejo in free agency, they need long-term answers at the position and the Minnesota product has everything they could want to fill that void.

Acquiring another second-round pick in the trade with Philadelphia allows the Browns to adequately address what some might say is their biggest need after addressing the left tackle spot, linebacker. Losing Joe Schobert and Christian Kirksey puts a lot of pressure on Mack Wilson and Sione Takitaki, two second-year players who still have plenty left to prove. Willie Gay Jr. will give Cleveland much more versatility and, frankly, potential in that unit.

Gay showed at the NFL Combine that he’s a freak athlete with a 4.46-second 40 and incredible jumps. That’s evident on his film, though that’s limited due to multiple suspensions at Mississippi State. Even still, with experience and coaching to help fine-tune his mental processing as a MIKE linebacker, Gay has the physical tools to be an asset both as a speedy sideline-to-sideline defender and a valuable piece when dropping into coverage.
